Stepping out of the comfort zone

For ages, I wanted to start my own business but going from thought to action was a step I wasn’t prepared to take. Instead, I stubbornly persisted and continued to follow a track, I wasn’t sure was the right one from the very beginning. Being a copywriter, ignoring my gut feeling was problematic, since listening to your instinct, is key for the greatest ideas to flow, a fact I didn’t want to face then. One thing I had to admit though, was that I was definitely not in the zone.

So I thought that if I learned more about creativity, I would be more creative, why I desperately purchased many books on the topic. I even bought a deck of cards with inspirational quotes, to pick from everyday and have in front of me on my desk. As much as I hoped they would give me some inspiration, they didn’t help me at all. Suddenly, I realized that I didn’t want to take the advices that where there right in front of my eyes all along. This is what one of the cards says:

We are spiritual sharks. The ruthless truth is that if we don’t keep moving, we sink to the bottom and die. Julia Cameron

Just recently I started my own business as a freelance copywriter and I already feel that I am on the right track. I know now that I cannot expect an endless flow of ideas to come to me if I feel stuck, due to stress, anxiety or worry about other people’s opinions. If I want to step into the zone, I need to step out of my comfort zone.
